Bayer to Help Victims of Natural Disasters in China and Burma - Goods and Funds Donation in the Amount of 350,000 Euros

In light of the devastating natural disasters in China in Burma, Bayer will provide emergency relief through the donation of goods and funds worth approximately 350,000 Euros in total.

“The situation in China and Burma is dramatic. We want to do our part in order to alleviate the hardships faced by the populations, particularly in regard to minimizing health risks” said Bayer CEO Werner Wenning.

The first relief measures, worth a total of approximately 210,000 Euros, have already begun in China. They include a monetary donation and the supply of urgently needed medicines for the victims of the earthquake, as well as a fundraising drive among Bayer employees in the country.

Bayer is making available goods and funds worth approximately 145,000 Euros in total to the victims of the Cyclone Nargis in Burma. Bayer employees in neighboring Thailand are also contributing with private donations.

Relief measures in both countries are being coordinated through international help organizations.

Bayer property suffered no damages as a result of the earthquake, which primarily hit the Sichuan province in the country's southwest. All Bayer employees in China were unharmed.

Production at Bayer facilities in China continues unhampered. The Bayer Animal Health and Bayer MaterialScience facilities located in the hard-hit region of Sichuan (Chengdu and Chongqing) reported no injuries or damages. The Bayer Integrated Site in Shanghai was not affected by the earthquake either.
